The Child and Youth Services Program Assistant supports the Child and Youth Services Specialists in administering a developmentally appropriate Early Childhood, Youth Services or Youth Sports program.
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
- Assist the Child and Youth Services Program Assistant Lead in planning and implementation of daily and weekly program activities..
- Supports one or multiple Child and Youth programs.
- Maintains control and accountability of the whereabouts and safety of children and youth in compliance with local and DOD policies and accreditation standards.
- Interacts with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques.
- Helps prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily schedules.
- Participates in conferences with parents and staff when appropriate.
- Assists children and youth with special projects, homework and life skills.
- Cares for special needs children and youth as directed by the Program Lead.
- Helps serve appropriate snacks or meals where applicable.
- Supports Program Lead in program evaluation.
- Assists in achieving and maintaining applicable certification and national accreditation or equivalent.
- Promotes, models and ensures compliance with health, fire, safety, facility and program regulatory requirements and CYS baseline standards.
- Records and reports all accidents and incidents involving children to the Child Youth Program Assistant Lead.
- Maintains, displays and bulletin boards.
- Completes all required training and demonstrates competence in job requirements.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to interact effectively with children, parents, program staff, and school personnel.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.
Experience & Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Possess six (6) months experience working in a group program with children or youth.
- Completion of Army or other military service Entry Level Training certificate or Child Development Associates credential issued by Council for Professional Recognition,
OR
- Nine (9) credit hours in early childhood/elementary/secondary/special education, child youth development, psychology, human development, youth program administration, recreation, or related behavioral sciences
- Specified training program or related experience may be substituted for educational requirements
OR
- One year vocational certificate in child care or equivalent to other child/youth related programs
- CPR and First Aid Certifications, preferred.
- Child Care National Agency Check (CNACI) is required
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Must be able to work extended hours, often with short notice. Extended hours may include late nights, early mornings, weekends and holidays.
- Duties may involve working both indoors and outdoors.
- Must be in good physical health and able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs., walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
- Position will be assigned to overseas locations where living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable, with long hours, exposure to weather, dust, and hazardous/harsh conditions.
