Job Summary
Oversees and cooks vegetables, fruits, meats, fish, poultry, and soups for the table.  Ensures that all federal, state, department, and other necessary government agency requirements are met in the preparation of food.  Oversees the preparation of food for customers.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Operates steam cookers, stoves, ovens, ranges, and other cooking equipment.
  • Create new dishes and improve on familiar ones.
  • Order specific quantities of food.
  • Checks food supplies, kitchen supplies, and kitchen laundry, and ensures that cooking utensils, pans, and other equipment are kept in a clean/sanitary condition.
  • Tastes food to ensure that color, texture, taste, and nutritional values are maintained.
  • Assign cleaning duties as needed
  • Ensure all food preparation and kitchen is cleaned and ready for next shift
  • Accurately complete daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules
  • Assist with training of kitchen personnel
  • Record food temperatures, production, and waste on required documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
  • Excellent English communication skills and ability to interact effectively with customers and other personnel
  • Knowledge of food service and sanitation standards
  • Willingness to learn and grow in food service abilities
  • Ability to multi-task and handle service points such as grille, cashier duties, and food preparation
  • Ability to consistently arrive punctually and contribute to a positive dining atmosphere
Experience & Education
  • Typically, a minimum of three (3) years of cooking experience in a restaurant environment
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time such as ten (10) to twelve (12) hours, bend, kneel, and reach to store/retrieve supplies
  • Ability to lift, carry, and push supplies and boxes up to 50 pounds
  • Good vision, reading ability, wrist movements, and physical feeling to operate food service equipment
  • Ability to talk and hear well to instruct employees and assist dining facility customers
  • Position requires shift work, days and nights
  • Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
