Job Summary

The Carpenter Supervisor is responsible for supervision of carpentry foremen, crews, and the overall successful completion of carpentry tasks in assigned area of responsibility.


Principal Accountabilities

(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)

  • Supervise and provide direction to carpenter shop staff including foremen and carpenters, read and interpret instructions and documentation, plan work activities, and assign work
  • Track all carpentry related tasks supporting all functions under Operations and Maintenance (O&M)
  • Review all carpenter related estimates for new work and work orders
  • Ensure appropriate work coverage to meet mission priorities
  • Review and approve all materials and equipment requests submitted by carpenter shop
  • Ensure safety training, proper operation of basic power tools, and adherence to standard operating procedures and standards for all carpenter shop personnel
  • Review and approve material list for each carpenter shop tasking for work orders and service orders
  • Plan and lay out work from blueprints, drawings, models, and verbal instructions by making standard shop computations, selecting necessary materials, and using a variety of carpenter hand tools, portable power tools, and standard measuring instruments
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to read design drawings and specifications, interpret blueprints, and use basic math skills to calculate accurate measurements of supplies needed
  • Knowledge of appropriate storage and preservation of military building materials
  • Ability to interact professionally with customers and trades people
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel
  • Fluent in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English

Experience & Education

  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in structural carpentry with at least four (4) years at the supervisor or foreman level
  • Experience in rough framing, finish carpentry, metal stud framing, and/or drywall hanging
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions


  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
